Open up Adobe Photoshop CS and from the project folder open scanlines_tutorial_start.psd it is located in the images folder of the project folder you downloaded. |
 |
| |
Now that you have the file open place the mouse cursor over the layer named metro and double click it. |
 |
| |
Select pattern overlay from the layers style menu. |
 |
| |
Then in the pattern menu
click and select the arrow button in the top right hand corner of the pattern menu and select load patterns. Load the pattern file from the project folder. |
 |
| |
You should now have two new patterns in your pattern pallete. Select either scanline pattern white 1 px or scanline pattern black 1 px. Then click ok and view the result. You have now created a scanline effect in Photoshop. Now how easy was that? You can adjust the scale and opacity to alter the effect. Have a look at the scanlines_tutorial_finished.psd file to see my finished file. |

Tip : The patterns were made very simple. Make a document transparent 1px width and 2 px height then take the pencil tool make a 1 px square of color at the top. Press control a to select all then in the file menu select Edit > Define Pattern. Type a name for your new pattern and viola you just made a pattern. |
